Accessibility statement
Last reviewed: September 2026
We want this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including those who use a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, or need to enlarge the text. Much of our audience is older, and that has guided the design from the start.
The standard we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Based on our own testing — both automated tools and manual keyboard and screen-reader checks — we believe this site currently meets that standard. It has not yet been independently audited, and automated testing cannot catch every possible issue, so if you find something we have missed we would be very glad to hear about it.
What we've done
- Body text is set large (18px) with comfortable line spacing, and the page language is declared so screen readers pronounce it correctly.
- Every page can be operated by keyboard, with a visible focus outline, a “skip to content” link, and a menu button that announces whether it is open or closed.
- Every photograph has a written description, and purely decorative illustrations are hidden from screen readers so they don’t add noise.
- The enquiry form has a clear, visible label on every field.
- Colour combinations are checked to meet AA contrast, in both the light meadow tones and the darker footer.
- Motion is kept gentle and optional: the background video on the home page does not play if you prefer reduced motion, or on smaller screens — a still image is shown instead — and the same setting turns off the subtle fade-in animations.
- Headings and page regions follow a logical order, so the site is straightforward to navigate with assistive technology.
Every page was checked with the axe automated accessibility testing tool, which reported no issues at the time of our last review.
Known limitations
The site has not yet had a formal, independent accessibility audit. Some of the larger background and header images are still illustrative placeholder artwork awaiting final photography; each carries a text description in the meantime, and the home page’s background video is likewise a placeholder. If any of this makes something hard to use, please tell us.
